They gathered in an upper room to share a meal.
We gather around the altar
Those who gathered with Jesus were.....Simon – called Peter and his brother Andrew. James and his brother John (the sons of Zebedee) Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew (the tax collector) and James (son of Alphaeus). Thaddeus, Simon (the patriot) and Judas Iscariot.
As each name is read – a candle is lit on the table or placed... The names of the women can be included.
Seeing we are surrounded with such a great cloud of witnesses to faith – those who have run the race before us and have entered into their rest – we join them now to sing your praise.
For the first apostles and those who have kept the light of faith burning through the centuries
Sung Iona chant eg.
Glory and gratitude and praise – now let earth to heaven raise
Glory and gratitude and praise these we offer to God
For those who passed the light to us and who brought us to our faith. (other candles can be placed)

Come Lord Jesus. Take your place at this, your table. (a large central candle is placed)

All the candles are extinguished except the central light
The altar is stripped (if tradition)
.........he was arrested and they all forsook him and fled. - candles are blown out except main central candle.
